SXSW and a new bass player!
Hey dudes and ladydudes,
We posted our upcoming shows for SXSW on myspace, we'll put more info up there as we get it! So far it looks like:
16TH - CLUB ENCORE
17TH - TBA
18TH - DEATH METAL PIZZA SHOP
19TH - TBA or HOUSE SHOW
20TH - TBA or HOUSE SHOW
21ST - JACKELOPE
Also we want to welcome our new bass player, Ricky Way! Ricky was in such epic bands as, "Defcon Burly, Gay Animals, and Total Jerk" just to name a few. I've known him for 14 years. When we were kids our shitty punk bands would play shows together at the Burien Library. Maybe you were at one of those early primitive Book of Black Earth gigs?!?!
Anyways, he's in our band now, welcome!

A new record!
Hey dudes and lady dudes. We are working hard on writing a new record for your listening pleasure and this one will truly be skull shattering. We are not quite sure where we are recording it (or when) but more than likely it will be in the next couple months. The only thing I know for sure is a title and that is, "The Cold Testament".
Thematically, The Cold Testament will be a little looser than Horoskopus, but there is still an underlying current to both the sound of the album and lyrically. This will in my opinion be our strongest, most haunting offering, closing another chapter in the Book of Black Earth.
Also as a four piece now, the sound has changed a bit in the more raw guitar driven direction. I know a lot of you miss the keyboards (and a lot of you don't!) but more than likely they'll make an appearance here and there on the next record.

We are no longer on tour!
Due to a major budget failure, we are not able to do the tour with Moonspell, Divine Heresy, and Secrets of the Moon. The Moonspell tour is still happening! Just without us!
At the very last minute the budget for the bus with DH fell through, and without shows on the way to Florida, we had no way to pay for the drive there. We are all very sorry this happened, and plan on making it up soon.
We are however, working on a new record instead and will keep you posted here with more tour dates for us as they come!

Samael is dropping off our upcoming tour because they couldn't get the proper work visas.

A review that compares us to a Big Mac...

I wonder if they knew I had a soft spot for the Big N' Tasty? And that soft spot is my belly.
"BOOK OF BLACK EARTH - "Horoskopus"

Thick, chewy, meaty...no, I'm not salivating over the latest Big Mac variation, but rather the bone-grinding "Horoskopus". This is one hell of a beatdown from Book of Black Earth, a name that's been around a good few years now but which I've never sampled before. This disc can be described as nothing but HEAVY. Within the first 30 seconds of the brutally majestic opening instrumental "2160", I knew I was gonna get my ass kicked...and I was looking forward to every minute of it! The guitar sound is massively thick and sludgy, just the way I like it, with drums booming like cannon fire.
There's a little bit of everything going on here. Plenty of steam-rolling doom, exemplified by the torpid funeral crawl of "Cult of Dagon" and the rumbling "Darkest Age". But the Book can blast,too, and hits some savage grindcore velocities on "Total Control", "Christ Pathogen" and "Horoskripture". The material on "Horoskopus" is a great combination of the wickedly primitive with the epic...keyboards lend surprising atmosphere to every cut without detracting from the size fifteen boot that caves your head in. A triple vocal attack mixes demonic grumbles with undead raven rasps and angry shouts. There's even some slowcore Neurosis-like ambience, particularly on "Cult of Dagon" and "Christ Pathogen"...but a million times heavier than Neurosis ever dared to be. On the fast-paced "Funeral for Peace", there's almost a metalcore vibe, but metalcore that's been dragged through the fetid slime of Hellhammer, Coffins and Grave.
This is for sure one of the heaviest records out there that retains a sense of style and dynamics. Book of Black Earth would make a great pairing with label-mates Withered. This is one meal that will leave you hungry for more..."

INTERVIEW WITH BLISTERING...
Seattle’s Book of Black Earth has kept busy over the last few months. In October, they followed the scent of blood left by Watain on stages in towns across America and just recently, the atmospheric death troupe travelled state to state as a prelude to the pummeling stage act of Cattle Decapitation. Even though Book of Black Earth was not the main attraction, they weren’t even the runner up (Withered went on before Watain and Psyopus preceded Cattle Decapitation), their performance made a noticeable impact on the Watain and Cattle Decapitation devotees. Not only did the band display crushing death metal, which fits well with extreme metal crowd, but they brought a sound distinguishable from their tour mates, as well as the death metal norm...
